Об'єднавши зусилля з сестрою Шерон Фалконер, він «видає» пристрасні проповіді, які приносять йому популярність і добробут.Цікавий фільм про ділову сторону релігії. Ланкастер в ролі Гантрі, хитромудрого афериста, що трансформує світ чесного євангеліста Сіммонса. Довга, але соковита драма поставлена за романом Сінклера Льюїса. Заслужено відзначені "Оскарами" Берт Ланкастер і режисер Брукс за прекрасний сценарій. Шерлі Джонс отримала Оскара (краща жіноча роль другого плану) за роль жінки з темного минулого Гантрі.
