Walter Martin and Eddie Taylor are a couple of theatrical agents, and they receive a visit from Andrew "Cactus" Clayton, who is looking for Effie Canova, who grub-staked him years ago. He longs to share his wealth with her and offers Martin and Taylor a thousand dollars if they'll find her. They learn that Effie is dead, but her daughter is in an orphanage. Unable to finance the trip, they make a deal with "Spider" Mike Lawrence, getting $200 from him to, supposedly, bet on a horse. At the orphanage, they find that Effie's daughter, Judy Canova is far too old to adopt, so they sign her to a contract and promise her a theatrical career. But before that can set out for Nugget City to collect from "Cactus", Mike and his henchman, Louie , catch up with them. It seems that the horse they didn't bet on won paying gigantic odds. Another in the series of Don Barry starring films (who NEVER used Don 'Red' Barry as his billing except in his series of Republic westerns from 1940-44 and the serial "The Adventures of Red Ryder"), financed by Robert L. Lippert and produced by William Berke all as A Donald Barry Production in the late 40's and early 50's, this one pretty much follows the semi-inaccuracies and myths found in the vast majority of the films about Billy the Kid, while adding a narration - a trend found in many B-westerns of this period evidently under the mistaken impression it would add some class to the proceedings. It didn't. And having a 38-year-old actor play an outlaw who died when he was 21 gave Barry an opportunity to darken his hair to nearly black and pull out, what appears to be, the forelock hairpiece he used for the Red Ryder serial in 1940 to make him look more like the character as drawn by Fred Harman. It didn't make him look much like the real Billy the Kid, though.Written by

St. Joseph, Missouri, in 1859, is divided by a railroad track that separates the richer and poorer classes of people. From the richer side comes Ann Arnesen, daughter of Michael Arnesen, owner of the Pony Express. Michael hires Sam Cotton to protect his pony line from hostile Indians and the attacks of the gang of Peter Marquette, owner of a stagecoach line who fears losing his contracts to the pony riders. Sam finds himself in a difficult position because Michael's wife, Cathy, is in love with Marquette. Sam, despite several attacks by Marquette's men, organizes the pony line. The ailing Michael is shocked to death by his wife's confession of hate, and Marquette tries to destroy the express stations. Sam, with the aid of a friendly Indian tribe, finally wipes out Marquette and his gang, and returns to St. Joseph and Ann, the woman he loves.Written by

From the richer side comes Ann Arnesen, daughter of Michael Arnesen, owner of the Pony Express. Michael hires Sam Cotton to protect his pony line from hostile Indians and the attacks of the gang of Peter Marquette, owner of a stagecoach line who fears losing his contracts to the pony riders. Sam finds himself in a difficult position because Michael's wife, Cathy, is in love with Marquette. Sam, despite several attacks by Marquette's men, organizes the pony line. The ailing Michael is shocked to death by his wife's confession of hate, and Marquette tries to destroy the express stations. Sam, with the aid of a friendly Indian tribe, finally wipes out Marquette and his gang, and returns to St. Joseph and Ann, the woman he loves.Written by
