Laxmibai is hurt and disappointed at his lack of trust in her. Gangadhar informs Raghunath that he will be setting off on a secretive journey. Laxmibai is surprised to hear that the king has gone away without even informing her. Moropant tells her that Gangadhar must have gone to remarry. Laxmibai is distraught hearing this and says that she doesn't deserve to stay in the palace anymore. However, she vows to remove the British battalion from Jhansi before leaving, even if it meant stepping over a queen's limits.
