The setting is a ferry on the Sea of Japan. The film closely follows the three-day round trip between Niigata and Otaru, which takes 16 hours each way. The ferry is equipped with a deck with a view of the horizon and a large bath. Passengers sleep in bunk beds or private rooms and spend their time as they please on their way to their destinations. Passengers range from motorcyclists traveling in Hokkaido to truck drivers transporting cargo. In this time of time-pressured travel, why do people choose to spend long hours on a boat trip? We listen to the voices of those who travel by boat.
