Then, at the beginning of the 1920s, a group of businessmen were struck by the following insight: 'A product that refuses to wear out is a tragedy of business' (1928). Thus Planned Obsolescence was born. Shortly after, the first worldwide cartel was set up expressly to reduce the life span of the incandescent light bulb, a symbol for innovation and bright new ideas, and the first official victim of Planned Obsolescence. During the 1950s, with the birth of the consumer society, the concept took on a whole new meaning, as explained by flamboyant designer Brooks Stevens: 'Planned Obsolescence, the desire to own something a little newer, a little better, a little sooner than is necessary...'. The growth society flourished, everybody had everything, the waste was piling up (preferably far away in illegal dumps in the Third World) - until consumers started rebelling... Can the modern growth society survive without Planned Obsolescence? Did the eternal light bulb ever exist? How can a tiny chip 'kill' a product? How did two artists from New York manage to extend the lives of millions of iPods? Is Planned Obsolescence itself becoming obsolete?

Тут є все, окрім традиційних кінематографічних прийомів...У 1975 році Годфрі Реджіо, людина, яка провела 14 років в мовчанні і молитвах, несподівано дійшла ідеї зняти фільм в абсолютно новому стилі. Він задумав узяти образи з реального життя - емоційні, сирі, відверті картини - і відрекомендувати їх в невербальній, нелінійній формі, створивши, таким чином, свого роду кіноконцерт, він задумав трилогію "Каці".

Молодий студент Франкенштейн (Огастес Філліпс) усамітнюється в університетській лабораторії і намагається створити досконалу людину. Проте з величезної котла з реактивами з'являється дуже далека від ідеалу потворна істота — Чудовисько (Чарлз Огл). Франкенштейн в жаху залишає лабораторію. Вдома студента заспокоює його наречена Елізабет (Мері Фуллер), і Франкенштейн приходить до думки, що штучне створення людської істоти — помилковий шлях, а істина тільки в людських почуттях. Чарлз Огл в ролі монстраУ день весілля Чудовисько, яке не може існувати без свого творця, проникає в будуар Елізабет. На її крик прибігає Франкенштейн. Елізабет в непритомності. Чудовисько збиває студента з ніг і переховується. Франкенштейна переповнює любов до Елізабет, і це почуття остаточно витісняє Чудовисько з його свідомості. Фільм закінчується метафоричним епізодом, в якому Чудовисько бачить своє відображення в дзеркалі і з загрозою здіймає руки — але раптом зникає, причому його відображення в дзеркалі залишається. The execution of Topsy, a female elephant, in a publicity stunt advertising the opening of Luna Park on Coney Island. Topsy was originally owned by Forepaugh Circus where she killed a drunken spectator who burned the tip of her trunk with a cigar. She was sold to Sea Lion Park in 1902 which was then sold to new owners who turned it into Luna Park. After they decided they could no longer handle her, the owners of Luna Park announced they would hang Topsy, leading to an outcry by the ASPCA. The owners then decided they would electrocute the elephant, with a backup plan of feeding her cyanide-laced carrots and strangling her with a cable.
