It is the 13th century, and Russia is overrun by foreign invaders. A Russian knyaz', or prince, Alexander Nevsky, rallies the people to form a ragtag army to drive back an invasion by the Teutonic knights. This is a true story based on the actual battle at a lake near Novgorod.

Дія фільму відбувається в 1930-ті роки. На радянському Далекому Сході, біля Тихого океану планують побудувати нове місто — Аероґрад. Місцеве населення поділяється на дві групи: перші (позитивні герої) підтримують, а другі («класові вороги») всіляко з ним борються. Щоб зашкодити будівництву, Японія засилає диверсантів («самураїв»). Але на перешкоді їм стає колґоспник Стєпан Ґлушак, який їх нейтралізує. Частина дії відбувається в селі старовірів, де керівники громади негативно ставляться до Аероґраду (підтримуючи японського агента), а молодь, навпаки, радіє йому. Наприкінці фільму Стєпан Ґлушак самочинно «засуджує» до страти свого друга (який став «зрадником») і вбиває його. У фільмі також присутній образ «доброго тубільця» — представника корінних народів Далекого Сходу. Він — доброзичливий, примітивний і, звісно ж, у захваті від радянської влади.
