Це відкриття збігається з прибуттям на Землю перших чужопланетян з екзопланети Вулкан (англ. Vulkan). Дія більшості серій відбувається на борту зоряного корабля «Ентерпрайз» (англ. "Enterprise"), який Земля спорядила для дослідження просторів глибокого космосу.
