"What if someone had an absurd dream and the visions ran out in the street?" a scientist asks Rose, a researcher who discovers a way to engender beneficial dreams (to produce contented, productive workers). There's a problem: after an injection of her elixir, dream elements become real. Rose learns this after dosing her husband Henry to stop his dreaming about Jessie, a curvaceous comic-book heroine who has anti-gravitational gloves he needs to study so he can solve a problem at the factory where he's chief engineer: Henry wakes up with Jessie asleep next to him pursued by a cowboy and a super hero. Jealousy consumes Rose. All this plus satire aimed at the Czechoslovak state.

Також важливий і факт наявності у творі відомих міцних фраз, які надають колорит і жвавість сприйняття картини. У даній версії відсутність цензури компенсує ці недоліки, можливо нагадуючи глядачам часи, коли читався твір саме в українському перекладі Степана Масляка (Київ 1970).

The plot of the film follows a bus ride on the Prague - Karlovy Vary route and the actions of the people on it. A diverse group of people with various interests, professions and personalities gathered on the bus. Their encounter in the close environment of the bus gave the opportunity to create a whole series of good humorous situations. The ride on the express bus is a symbolic example of the contemporary life of our society, in which, just like when riding a bus, it is necessary to suppress many private interests and selfish qualities in order to successfully reach the destination.

Події фільму відбуваються в епоху Відродження. Імператор Священної Римської імперії Рудольф II, що жив у 1552—1612 роках бу відомим меценатом. Він запрошує до Праги багатьох митців і вчених, зокрема й алхіміків з різних країн, одержимий ідеєю знайти Ґолема, міфологічного глиняного гіганта, якого можна оживити за допомогою магії. Рудольф II сподівається, що Ґолем допоможе йому повернути молодість і стати господарем світу.А в цей час його придворні обмірковують, як знайти спосіб скинути його з престолу. Однак їх планам може перешкодити одна обставина — імператорський пекар, ув'язнений до темниці за розбазарювання королівських рогаликів, дивно схожий на Рудольфа II. Пекар Матей, вирізняється розсудливістю, справедливим і добрим характером, кинутий у в'язницю, намагається втекти і в підсумку приборкує жвавого Ґолема і використовує його силу, щоб пекти хліб для бідних.

Події фільму відбуваються в епоху Відродження. Імператор Священної Римської імперії Рудольф II, що жив у 1552—1612 роках бу відомим меценатом.
