Часом кохання буває жорстоким - невблаганно переслідує нас, даруючи помилкові надії і примушуючи чекати того єдиного, якому не судилося бути поруч. Така доля Меггі Клірі, самовіддано закоханої в духовного батька її сім'ї, священика Ральфа де Брікассара. Меггі - як птах із старовинної кельтської легенди, що все життя проводить у пошуках тернового куща, щоб загинути від його шипів, заспівавши свою останню хтиву пісню.Вона готова все життя нести кохання як щасливий дар і жорстоку муку заради тих небагатьох моментів, коли вона може бути з коханим.
