Коли 15-річний Зак відправляється на риболовлю, на острів Мако, то він навіть не підозрює, що кожен його крок уважно відстежується трьома русалками - Сиреною, Ніксі і Лайлою, які повинні були охороняти острів від стороннього втручання. Але в повний місяць Зак падає в місячний басейн, знаходить магічні сили і стає тритоном. Наступного ранку він виявляє, що здатний управляти водою. А пізніше, доторкнувшись до води, він бачить, що його ноги перетворилися на хвіст.Ніксі, Лайлу і Сирену в покарання за нехтування своїми обов'язками виганяють зі зграї.
