У 1889 році данська художниця Марі Тріпке вийшла заміж за Педера Северина Крьоєра, всесвітньо відомого живописця. Вони були однією з найзнаменитіших сімейних пар в країні. Видатні люди того часу - політики, аристократи, вчені, письменники, королівські особи, мріяли про те, щоб П. С. Крьоєр написав їх портрети. А Марі називали найкрасивішою жінкою Європи. Життя сім'ї, в якій підростала донька Вібеке, виглядала ідеальною: творчість, високий статус, багатство. Але за удаваним благополуччям ховалося справжнє пекло.
