Велика шишка на голлівудській кіностудії Гріффін Данн наділений правом вирішувати, який з запропонованих сценаріїв запустити у виробництво. У нього багато ворогів, тому що більшості проектів він вимушений говорити «ні». Його починає залякувати хтось, підкидаючи загрозливі записки. Гріффін нервує і в нападі люті здійснює безглузде вбивство безвинного драматурга. Він зближується з вдовою убитого, художницею-авангардисткою і намагається вирішити дві важкі задачки: уникнути кари за злочин і зберегти своє крісло, що захиталося в результаті студійних інтриг.Нагороди та номінації
