Але в ролі Сільвера, все той же, неповторний Роберт Ньютон. Дія фільму відбувається, приблизно, через рік після подій викладених у фільмі "Острів Скарбів" 1950р., який закінчується тим, що Сільвер в корабельній шлюпці пливе з Острова Скарбів в бік Ямайки. Через відсутність компаса та інших навігаційних приладів, якими Сільвер все одно користуватися не вмів, Сільвер збився з курсу і потрапив не на Ямайку, а в містечко Порто-Белло (сучасна Колумбія), де влаштувався нахлібником до якоїсь мадам Пінкер - господині трактиру. У цьому трактирі Сільвер, в оточенні нової зграї піратів, коротає дні і ночі за стаканчиком рому. Мимохідь він думає повернутися на Острів Скарбів і привласнити скарби.
