Дія фільму відбувається, приблизно, через рік після подій викладених у фільмі "Острів Скарбів" 1950р., який закінчується тим, що Сільвер в корабельній шлюпці пливе з Острова Скарбів в бік Ямайки. Seeing a lion in pain, he removes a huge thorn from the beast's paw, creating a friend for life.
