Norm Henderson is an ex-hockey player who was banned from hockey for life for gambling and tax evasion. Now he must do 5 years of community service as a social worker or go to prison. His coworkers are collection of burn-outs and basically inept losers, with one exception - Laurie, who ends up spending a lot of time trying to bail out Norm.

Голова родини Торнберрі - Найждел, відомий ведучий документальних фільмів про дику природу «Тваринний світ очима Найджела Торнберрі». Зі своєю дружиною Маріанн і двома доньками Елайзою і Деббі, вони подорожують світом у фургоні. Елайза - молодша сестра, за порятунок африканського шамана отримала здатність розмовляти з тваринами. Її кращий друг - шимпанзе Дарвін. Під час зйомок на острові Борнео сім'я Торнберрі поповнюється ще одним членом - хлопчиком Донні.
