Лев Демидов, який потрапив у немилість керівництва службою у розвідці, береться за розслідування підозрілих випадків дитячих убивств, які вибудовуються в логічний ланцюжок. Нове заняття Льва стає цікавим радянському уряду, яке робить необхідні кроки для переслідування чоловіка. На шляху до розгадки виникають все нові і нові перешкоди, але Демидова це не зупиняє.
