Джордж Стівенс — видатний американський кінорежисер, продюсер, сценарист та оператор. Отримав дві статуетки «Оскар» за найкращу режисерську роботу.
Починав як оператор, працюючи над короткометражним комедіями за участю Лорела і Харді. Першим його повнометражним фільмом була серійна комедія «Коени і Келлі в біді» (1933). Справжнім режисерським проривом став для нього фільм «Еліс Адамс» (1935) з Кетрін Хепберн. Знімав кінохроніку: операцію «Нептун», звільнення Парижа, зустріч на Ельбі, звільнення ув'язнених з таборів Дубен і Дахау. Стівенс допомагав у підготовці табірної хроніки для показу на Нюрнберзькому процесі. У 2008 році кінохроніка Стівенса була включена в Національний реєстр фільмів.
Військовий досвід Стівенса позначився на його роботах — вони стали більш драматичними. «Я пам'ятаю маму» (1948) — останній фільм, що містить комічні сцени. At least once, he showed a film, the only known film of Anna Pavlova (doing her Swan Dance). The Muppets' first TV appearance was on Ed Sullivan. Stiff and expressionless, with a peculiar voice and a talent for mispronunciation, Sullivan was at least as recognizable as Cronkite to early 60's viewers.
