У фільмі мало місця приділено «затертому» сюжету про «аргонавтів», можна сказати згадується про цьому мимохіть. Причому аргонавти показані аж ніяк не романтично героїчно, а скоріше нагадують найманців-мародерів. Більша ж частина фільму присвячена другій половині життя Мідеї і Ясона: зустріч, любов і розставання. Кинута, і навіть вигнана Мідея не може простити підступництва свого колишнього улюбленого, що проміняв її заради весілля із Глоціею, дочкою короля Креона.
