Він навчився відмовляти не тільки іншим, але й собі самому, живучи в холодній квартирі, харчуючись звичайною юшкою і не радіючи навіть такому святу як Різдво, вважаючи цю пору марною тратою грошей і часу. Однак у різдвяну ніч з'являются духи Різдва - вони відкривають Скруджу очі на його минуле, сьогодення та майбутнє.
