«Наша пісня гарна й нова, так почнімо її знову» – саме ця думка з’являється на перших хвилинах фільму «Фальшива личина» і не полишає до його фінальної сцени.
Здавалося б, від усіма забутого затертого «Святого» (1997) лишився тільки такий самий затертий Вел Кілмер. Режисер інший, сценарист інший, місце подій інше, а кіно лишилося те саме: і американець, що загубився в нетрях пострадянської/постсоціалістичної країни (у даному випадку – Болгарії), і всюдисуща мафія, щоправда, тепер уже не російська чи українська, як звикли іноземці, а таджицька, і все ті ж злочинці/ стражі порядку/ перехожі, що розмовляють цілком зрозумілими слов’янськими мовами... Й інтриги ті самі: хтось проти когось змовляється, аби отримати гроші і владу.
Навіть фінал такий самий: змовник-злочинець виправляється, тікає від переслідувачів і повертається до закоханого дурника, котрого/котру весь фільм доводилося витягати з халепи. От тільки цього разу Вел Кілмер якраз і за дурника, і за злочинця з грошима.
Питання: якщо у все таке однакове, навіщо було тринькати гроші і знімати кіно? Можна і забуто-затертого «Святого» з задоволенням подивитися.
