Марімар - красива дівчина, яка живе зі своїми бабусею і дідусем в невеликому будиночку на березі моря. Вони дуже бідні і Марімар змушена красти продукти, щоб не померти з голоду. Одного разу вона забралась в маєток Сантібаньєс, але керуючий виявляє її. Він вирішує скористатися ситуацією і говорить, що якщо вона його поцілує, він зможе дати їй їжу. Марімар не погоджується і на її крики приходить Серхіо, син багатого господаря маєтку. Він її захищає і Марімар закохується в нього. Серхіо хоче стати самостійним і отримати належну частину спадщини, але батьки всіляко перешкоджають йому. Тоді він вирішує одружитися на Марімар, щоб помститися і принизити батьків. Марімар погоджується вийти заміж за Серхіо. З цього почався важкий період в житті двох закоханих. Кохання та ненависть супроводжують кожну хвилину.
