Молодому роботязі Джею Пайрпонту Фінчу набридло мити вікна в офісах. І одного разу Фінч вирішує виконати свою мрію. Він купує книгу «Як досягти успіху в бізнесі, нічого не роблячи», вивчає її від корки до корки і влаштовується в відділ пошти у «Всесвітню компанію хвірток». Коли сатирик Шеперд Мід писав книгу «Як досягти успіху в бізнесі, нічого не роблячи», він напевно не підозрював, що вона стане біблією всіх «білих комірців» і іншого офісного планктону, oj просиджує стільці в численних корпораціях, холдингах і акціонерних товариствах. Але диво сталося. Працівники офісів вчили поради Міда напам'ять. А сама книга швидко привернула увагу сценаристів Віллі Гілберта і Джека Вайнсток, які вирішили перетворити її спочатку в п'єсу з офісного життя, а потім і в веселий сатиричний мюзикл.

Another secret spy ring also wants to get their hands on Jerry's luggage and they *also* follow him. Eventually, Jerry is chased by both these organizations as well as the police, who suspects him of murder.
