The show opens with two sequels, first is Arthur 2: On the Rocks (1988), which neither liked because of the lackluster screenplay and the choice to make the main character responsible; the other is Short Circuit 2, which both Gene and Roger were surprised that they really liked. They disagreed bitterly on the Eddie Murphy comedy Coming to America (1988), Gene was relieved that Eddie Murphy toned down his screen persona and made a very funny movie, but Roger thought the plot was tired, hackneyed and low energy. They both hated the horror sequel Phantasm II (1988) which they dismissed except for the silver ball. They were both very enthusiastic about Midnight Run (1988) which they thought was one of the year's best. Both Gene and Roger thought that Stealing Home (1988) was a sappy mess, making for one of the year's worst films. They were very enthusiastic about Martin Scorsese's controversial The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), which Gene described as a religious experience and one of the year's best films. Both he and Roger remarked that it was one of the few films that made them ...
