Дядя Ерік повинен був відвезти дітей на час канікул у Єгипет, але захворів. Однак, діти з нетерпінням чекали цієї поїздки «цілу вічність». Тоді їхній батько вирішує взяти відпустку і сам поїхати з ними. Все починається добре, але тільки до тих пір, поки вони не добираються до аеропорту.Батько запізнюється на літак, і діти залишаються самі в Каїрі. Майже самі. Їх сусідка і найлютіший ворог пані Флінт опинилася в Каїрі, де живе її сестра, що вийшла заміж за датського посла.
Після довгих умовлянь, пані Флінт погоджується доглянути за дітьми під час їх перебування в Єгипті, але у неї свій погляд на те, чим їх зайняти. Вона хоче повести їх у нудні музеї та на лекції, в той час як самі вони хочуть плавати і їздити на верблюдах...
