Ув'язнені здійснюють постановку "Юлія Цезаря" Шекспіра.Закінчується п'єса Шекспіра "Юлій Цезар", завіса, бурхливі овації. Гасне світло, актори залишають сцену і... повертаються в камери римської в'язниці суворого режиму "Ребібія". Камера зафіксувала грандіозний експеримент по постановці спектаклю режисером Фабіо Каваллі з ув'язненими, багато з яких відбувають довічний термін. Універсальна мова Шекспіра допомагає новоявленим акторам зрозуміти свої ролі, знову пізнати дружбу і зраду, владу, обман і насильство - спочатку в п'єсі, а потім і в своєму житті. І хоча підмостки цієї п'єси - в'язниця, в самому фільмі вона дивним чином зникає...

1915 рік. Два вірменських брати Арам і Ассатур не бачилися один з одним 20 років і мріють про зустріч. Один з них - успішний доктор, емігрував у Венецію, і женився на італійській графині, іншої - землевласник у маленькому місті Анатолії, де він поважаємо й любимо не тільки впливовим вірменським співтовариством, але й місцевою владою Туреччини.Ассатур і його родина збираються виїхати з Венеції в Анатолію. Арам готується до врочистої зустрічі брата. Він реставрує стару віллу, за назвою Гніздо Жайворонка.

While travelling to visit their grandfather, two children are told the story of a family curse that has lasted two hundred years. During Napoleon's Italian invasion, Elisabetta Benedetti fell in love with French soldier Jean - but while Jean was distracted, Elisabetta's brother Corrado stole some gold that Jean was guarding, and set the curse in train. The Benedettis become wealthy, corrupt and hated by their former friends, who rename them the Maledettis - the cursed.
