On the first day of Ramadan, Hasan arrives at a railway station in the middle of the Anatolian wilderness. He has with him a young wife and a young daughter. He has heard that the small station community needs an imam to lead the prayer ritual and teach the children Koran during the holy month. Before too long, realizing how aloof he is with his wife and daughter and through a series of events, the townspeople decide that for all his impassioned preaching, his mellifluous calls to prayer and committed worship, Hasan is essentially a cruel and heartless man and they start to develop an almost hostile attitude towards the imam.

This is a story of two legendary men, Karagoz and Hacivat, who lived and died by their sense of humor. Bursa, 1330. A an ancient, crowded Roman city at the border of Byzantium. Changed hands 4 years ago and the small Ottoman tribe is just being transformed as a local state, on the remains of the old Eastern Roman Empire. The story takes place in an unrecorded period time, the last 2 months in the lives of two legendary Turkish stand-up comedians, Karagoz & Hacivat? They lived and died during the first clashes of the decaying Eastern Roman Empire and the first Ottomans of the 14th century Anatolia. Their stories and characters are adapted for traditional shadow theatre of the later Ottoman Empire, in modern Turkey and all over the Middle-East, Greece, and western Asia. Their legend and the truth about their tragic deaths are twisted and distorted, although their stingy humor still lingers on. After the the leader of the growing tribe of Ottomans, Orhan Gazi, notices the talents of two construction workers, famous among their friends with their clever and unending jokes, he rewarded them. But they were executed when he learns that they were keeping their co-workers laughing at their jokes during work hours, and causing a delay in the construction of the mosque to be named after Orhan Bey.

Селище Тепеджік, 60-і роки. Два підлітки з невеликого селища ходять щодня на роботу в місто. Мохмед підробляє у мудрого продавця кавунів, а Ресипу доводиться терпіти знущання тирана-перукаря. Селище Тепеджік, 60-і роки. Два підлітки з невеликого селища ходять щодня на роботу в місто. Мохмед підробляє у мудрого продавця кавунів, а Ресипу доводиться терпіти знущання тирана-перукаря. Цих двох хлопців зв'язує пристрасна любов до кінематографа. Вони ходять в магазини, придивляються до техніки, необхідної для створення фільмів, читають журнали і намагаються навчитися цьому складному мистецтву. В той же час хлоп'ята захоплені дівчатами.

Having failed incredibly many times in attempts to find a big talent and to be rich, the two producers (played by Haluk Bilginer and Cem Ozer) and their only two contracted singers (played by comedian Ata Demirer and Ragip Savas) struggle to clean their debts and make their dreams come true, no matter what happens. Being in a tight spot, they rely on a gastarbeiter who they hear sing over the phone. They desperately invite him to Turkey. Then, out of the blue, an inspirational lady, Firuze, shows up and supports the gang both morally and financially. With the support they receive from Firuze, the gang start walking, slowly but decisively, towards their aim. Just when they think they really can turn things around, they learn that Firuze is actually a schizophrenic and they did it all by themselves.
