А подав у відставку через скандал, який викривав його зв'язки з впливовими особами кримінального світу, хоча саме з ними став активно боротися його уряд. Худорлявий і невеликий зростом, з умінням жартувати і тонко іронізувати, Андреотті привертав увагу не тільки свого оточення, а й численних виборців.
