Based in Chennai, plainclothes police officer Pugazh slays Raka, a male wanted by Inter-pol, during the Shri Ganesh Visarjan. This news alerts his associates, some of who become alert, while others relieved, and Pugazh is instructed to proceed with his next target. The latter then meets with Janavi and both eventually fall in love. She then lets him speak with her wealthy Munich-based father, J.D., who instructs them to come home. Once there, he displays his disapproval for Pugazh. Unable to get close to his target, his stay is prolonged, prompting his mother to also travel there. And it is her arrival that will dramatically alter the entire situation - changing everyone's lives forever.

Karan (Bobby Deol) was wealthy and a mansion was his habitat. Raj (Akshay Kumar) had empty pockets and the sky was his roof. Karan's jet ensured that he could fly if he wanted. Raj could only depend on his two feet. Karan had a family and yet craved love. Raj had love to share, but craved a family. Karan was the eternal Casanova. Raj was the proverbial one-woman man. Karan had it all, and yet felt empty. Raj had nothing, but his heart was full. They were two people as different as can be. Yet they found a common ground. One that led to the glorious road of Friendship! Their bond was unshakable. If Karan gave Raj a home and all the material comforts, Raj gave Karan a shoulder and all the emotional security. If Karan supported Raj at every step, Raj covered up for all of Karan's misdoings. They laughed together, lied together, loved together and fought the odds together all in the name of friendship. Their blind faith in each other attracted the envy of the world. But it was this very world that never let them forget that theirs was not a relationship of equals. And how long could an unequal relationship sustain? Karan and Raj defied conventions proving that true friendship was above all such trivialities. Karan Malhotra (Akshaye Khanna) and Priya (Amisha Patel) belong to a rock band of sorts, and are sweethearts. Karan is the leader of the group, and finds that success is not easy. With considerable difficulty Karan is able to secure a contract with the prestigious company belonging to the most eligible and wealthy bachelor, Raj Singhania (Bobby Deol). This contract entails performing on a palatial yacht owned by Raj. The group is thrilled to get this contract and practice thoroughly to make themselves a success. Karan and Priya see this as an opportunity to save money for a happily married life. A chance meeting with Priya, throws Raj head over heels in love with her. Karan notices this, but has faith in his love and Priya. But others in the group observe that Priya is reciprocating Raj's advances. Then one day Raj presents Priya with an engagement, and Priya accepts it. He asks her to accompany him to see his family, where she is introduced to everyone. The family approve of her and a marriage is arranged. But is Priya really in love with Raj? What will be Karan's predicament when he finds out that his sweetheart has betrayed him? Does Raj really love Priya or does he want her to be one of his possessions?

Jhunjhunwala would like to locate his missing/runaway daughter, Seema Malhotra, so that he can get her married to Nitin Dharampal; Prominent businessman, Mahindra, would like to negotiate with his daughter, Sonu's kidnappers, and secure her release. And the Central Bureau of Investigation would like to protect the life of Chief Minister Gayetri Bachchan under the mission code-named "Maa", and the CBI Officer in Charge to be code-named "Baadshah". Now Baadshah happens to be a bumbling and out of work Private Investigator, who has agreed to assist Jhunjhunwala and Mahindra, and while doing so is mistaken for the CBI Agent, ends up working for the assassins, and must assassinate Gayetri or end up losing his team of four fellow-bumblers, and Mahindra's daughter. What results is hilarious chaos, with no one knowing what the other is doing, and each one being each other's suspect(s). To make matters worse Jhunjhunwala is not really Seema's dad, but someone else with an ulterior motive.
