Сюжет

Продюсер—невдаха Чарлі Бернс вже зневірився повернутися в кінобізнес. Одного дня він показав безнадійний сценарій свого племінника-дебютанта на студії. Дивно, але кінобоси відвалили круглу суму на постановку приреченого на провал фільму. Проте Чарлі знову круто «пощастило»: виконавця головної ролі викрали, і студія розриває контракт. A Christmas story. Charlie Gigot is a mute super at a dingy New York apartment building; he always wears a wool cap. One winter, a woman leaves her daughter Lou with Gigot, promising to be back the next day. Mom flakes out, and Gigot - who's down and out, probably with post-traumatic stress syndrome, has a drinking problem, and lives in a basement junk heap with a pet monkey - tries to find someone who will take Lou in. Winter gives way to spring; Gigot reluctantly becomes, in fits and starts, a parent. What if Lou's mom doesn't return; what are Charlie's options? His past may hold an answer.

Bill Porter, a man afflicted with cerebral palsy, is desperate to find a job despite his condition. He uses his sense of humor, determination and winning spirit to convince a manager to hire him as a door-to-door salesman for Watkins, a supplier of household items and baking products. Porter walks several miles every day on his sales route, eventually working his way into the hearts of his customers. This film is based on a true story.

A film critic accidentally kills his lover during a spat in which she falls and hits her head. In panic, he immediately covers up his involvement and leaves the apartment. A private investigator had been tailing the woman for her ex-husband. Realizing what happened, the investigator launches a blackmail scheme. The critic turns the tables after the investigator turns in his report. Meanwhile the police enter the case. Led by a detective with screenwriting ambitions, the chief suspect becomes the critic. But the detective's ambitions shrouds his judgment. He invites the critic to dinner and an affair with the detective's wife is initiated. Meanwhile, the critic's regular girl friend is suspicious of the whole affair.
