На околиці Палермо живуть п’ять сестер сімейства Макалузо абсолютно самостійно — без батьків. Попри постійні складнощі, діти сподіваються на краще майбутнє. Щоправда, незабаром одна несподівана подія змінює їхнє спокійне життя, після чого в героїнь з’являється спільна таємниця.
