Американський актор, сценарист, продюсер, співак. Актор посів 23 позицію у списку 100 найвизначніших зірок американського кіно за 100 років, складеним Американським інститутом кіномистецтва. Лауреат премії «Золотий глобус» за внесок у кіномистецтво (1992). Знімався у фільмах напрямку «нуар» (наприклад, «З минулого»), в 1950-ті — 1960-ті роки грав, в основному, негативних персонажів («Мис страху»). By the time it is finally decided to make a move the Germans have arrived in strength and a prolonged and bloody fight ensues.
