Події стрічки розгортаються у 1965 році. У центрі сюжету — 10-річна дівчинка (Кейлінн Спрінґолл), у якої починають з'являтися запитання щодо незвичного життя її родини у подібному до фортеці житлі, оточеному арканзаськими горами. Вона дізнається, що раз на місяць її тато перетворюється на монстра.
