Далі показують передісторію, як він потрапив у в'язницю і після смерті Сталіна вийшов на свободу. Але звичайний громадянин Піщик у комуністичній Польщі ніяк не може знайти свого місця в житті, тому завжди потрапляє під чужий вплив і зрештою потрапляє туди, де як він вважав, йому було найкраще - у в'язницю.
