Gregorio is a very conservative banker from Madrid (Spain's capital, at the center of the country), supporter of Real Madrid's soccer team and full of right-wing ideas, who is married with the more comprehensive MarÃa, being parents of three children: the older, Sandra, who is married with Jordi, a Catalonian supporter of the Barça's soccer team (Real Madrid's main rival); the middle Alicia, a free-spirited sweetheart that is dating with Leo, a perroflauta (Spanish for dreadlock) anti-system and anarchist Andalusian, and younger Carlos, a sensitive gay who is the boyfriend of Eneko, a black man born in Basque Country but that his parents are from Senegal. After of the sudden death of MarÃa in a run over, the family moves to San Lúcar de Barrameda (Andalucia, south to Spain) for the MarÃa's burial, and in addition to follow the MarÃa's last will for spending a weekend all together to roughen the roughness. But the different secrets of the Gregorio's children will complicate it: Sandra is pregnant, and she and Jordi will move to Barcelona to job, Alicia wants to break-up with Leo and he falls in love of Alejandro, a tourist who is passing a days in the town, and Carlos and Eneko are engagement to marry. Aurora is serving a prison sentence for a robbery that went wrong. Her accomplices are outside; Ana, her sister, Gloria and Paloma; Four women for whom so far life has not been easy. Ana is a prostitute who likes money. That's why she accepts the marriage proposal of Felix, a dangerous and powerful Mexican drug trafficker who falls for her. She moves with him to live in Mexico. Gloria receives a phone call from Mexico City; it's Ana. She wants her friend to visit her. Her husband's business dealings are very lucrative and she has been thinking; there's work to be done. Aurora finishes her stretch in jail and Paloma goes to collect her; they have a flight to catch; Madrid to Mexico; Ana and Gloria are waiting. From her golden cage, between the alcohol and her husband's beatings, Ana has designed a dangerous plan to hit back at Felix and his gang. A double strike: money and revenge, and for this reason she has called on her friends' help. Together the four women are ready for their lucky strike!

Spain 1960, the dawn of the country's economic development. Industrial "reorganization" means that many workers have lost their jobs and are forced to emigrate. Martin is one of them. Martin, his wife Pilar and their son Pablito live with Mart'n's parents in a basement apartment that comes with their job as superintendents of the building. Encouraged by Marcos, his friend and co-worker, Martin decides to emigrate to Switzerland. The whole family has to admit that for the time being this is the most promising plan. Unable to obtain a work contract from the Swiss Consulate, Martin and Marcos decide to go anyway, pretending they are tourists to get past the border police. Pablito will experience drastic changes in a short period of time: his father's departure, a new way of life in a different country with a different environment and learning another language. But afterwards, in Switzerland, they will face new experiences which will allow them to live with renewed happiness.

Що дозволяє картині піднестися над рівнем пересічної продукції, так це яскравий акторський ансамбль, у якому актуальна Пенелопе Крус грає разом із вічно прекрасною Фанні Ардан та Вікторією Абріль, котра поєднує в собі згадані якості своїх партнерок. Але більшою мірою картина «Немає звісток від Бога» зобов'язана своїм успіхом гарному сценарієві з розгалуженим сюжетом.На Небесах йде боротьба за душі померлих поміж конкуруючими корпораціями: Пекло (тут тіснява, розмовляють поганою англійською) і Рай (пустельна франкомовна зона) посилають своїх аґентів на грішну Землю – за поповненням. Чим далі від зав'язки рухається режисер, тим ближчим він стає до глядача; графік розумової проповіді зривається під натиском емоцій, повінь почуттів заповнює простір екрана.
Перверсні персонажі, що стали з легкої руки Альмадовара загальником, можуть викликати не просто туристичний інтерес. Чоловіче минуле грішного янгола і чоловіче сьогодення засудженого до смерти боксера – мала частина сучасного світу, що здався на милість жінці.
