The stories of Baron MÃ¼nchhausen were enriched by Karel Zeman with a character of a modern astronaut Tommy and compare two different worlds - the world of a rococo cavalier whose fantasy does not have any limits and the world of a young man of the present time. Сюжет

Події фільму відбуваються в епоху Відродження. Імператор Священної Римської імперії Рудольф II, що жив у 1552—1612 роках бу відомим меценатом. Він запрошує до Праги багатьох митців і вчених, зокрема й алхіміків з різних країн, одержимий ідеєю знайти Ґолема, міфологічного глиняного гіганта, якого можна оживити за допомогою магії. Рудольф II сподівається, що Ґолем допоможе йому повернути молодість і стати господарем світу.А в цей час його придворні обмірковують, як знайти спосіб скинути його з престолу. Однак їх планам може перешкодити одна обставина — імператорський пекар, ув'язнений до темниці за розбазарювання королівських рогаликів, дивно схожий на Рудольфа II. Пекар Матей, вирізняється розсудливістю, справедливим і добрим характером, кинутий у в'язницю, намагається втекти і в підсумку приборкує жвавого Ґолема і використовує його силу, щоб пекти хліб для бідних.
