Сюжет

За романом Генріка Сєнкєвіча. Епічна панорама, охоплює період польсько-шведської війни 1655-1660 років. На тлі історичних подій йде розповідь про долю молодого хорунжого Анджея Кмітіца, спершу відомого не своєю військовою доблестю, а розбишацтвом і розбоєм. Проте згодом він відзначився надзвичайною хоробрістю у битвах з загарбниками.

Екранізація другого роману трилогії Сєнкєвіча ("Вогнем і мечем", "Потоп", "Пан Володиєвський") . Єжи Гофман є режисером фільмів по всіх трьох романах, але хронологічно екранізація почалася з фільму "Пан Володиєвський " (1968) , потім "Потоп", і "Вогнем і мечем " (1999).
