For the Christmas holidays, Buck Seger has been tasked with getting some reindeer from a game farm for the San Ernesto California Zoo. Sandy Brooks, an animal keeper at the zoo, is a lonely woman who uses the animals as a surrogate for human affection. Despite this, she detests Buck, who is continually pestering her to go out with him. In his task for the zoo, Buck, indulging his big game hunting passion, decides to get one of the reindeer from the wild instead. He inadvertently captures Buddy, one of Santa's new reindeer. Santa not only has come to San Ernesto to rescue Buddy, but also to teach Buddy to fly, all before Christmas Day. Santa can travel between the North Pole and any location in the world via mirrors. While in San Ernesto, Santa names himself Nick Snowden. To get Buddy back, Nick figures he has to get close to Sandy, a move that does not sit well with Buck. Nick manages to move into the boarding house where Sandy lives. Getting Buddy back is more difficult than Nick first imagines, especially when money hungry Buck learns the special skills that Buddy possesses. But what may be more difficult for Nick is leaving San Ernesto without Sandy, with whom he is falling in love.

John Doe is an intelligent adventure series, named after the main character, albeit not by name: 'John Doe' is called thus because nobody knows the name of the man who literally fell from the sky, naked, in the sea near an obscure island. When Cambodian fishermen save him, it soon becomes clear his memory is in a paradoxical state: he has total amnesia concerning his own past, even his real name, but has more factual knowledge stored in his brain then even the Google computer banks on every possible other subject, as if he had memorized the Library of Congress, so one rarely needs to read anything when he's around. He also is intelligent and inquisitive enough to understand and use much of that knowledge, and keeps rolling into all kinds of weird mysteries, teaming up with various characters, each of which must first be convinced he's legit, such as police detectives Frank Hayes and Jamie Avery, but gets frustrated by finding his own story the most elusive, probably linked to some secret experiment.

Однак робота над картиною опиняється пiд загрозою, коли невiдомий вбивця починає полювати на однокурсникiв героїнi, втiлюючи у життя вигаданий нею сюжет...Стрiчка "Мiськi легенди" (1998) Джеймi Бланкса стала одним з найбiльш вдалих наслiдувань "Крику" i користувалась чималою популярнiстю у любителiв жахiв. Її продовження, зняте Оттманом (котрий також був монтажером та композитором "Легенд-2"), виявилось вторинним по вiдношенню не лише до фiльму-попередника, але й до "Крику-3", дiя якого теж вiдбуваeться у середовищi кiнематографiстiв. Жарти на адресу Голлiвуду та додаткова порцiя кривавих сцен не змогли компенсувати вiдсутнiсть оригiнального задуму i викликати глядацький iнтерес до картини. Вичерпнiсть теми пiдтвердили невеликi касовi збори стрiчки (18 млн. доларiв у прокатi США).
