Північна Америка охоплена наслідками цілої низки катастроф: спочатку грибкова пандемія, потім громадянська війна, а тепер - голод, що довів тих, хто вижив, до канібалізму. У цьому похмурому постапокаліптичному світі Гейлі, колишня військова, разом зі своїм партнером Галеном і прийомними дітьми намагається зберегти залишки цивілізованого побуту.
