A sports photographer in rural Canada sends a picture of a high school athlete, Tina Menzhal, to a Montréal fashion agency. This starts Tina on a career taking her from Canada to Paris to Montréal again, to Manhattan, to the world, and then home, through two boyfriends, two husbands, and innumerable TV interviews, either with nasty smiling scandalmongers or with gushing witless twits. In nearly every case, Tina never gets to finish a sentence. She has a suave agent, paparazzi are everywhere ("What the celebs forget, there's always a camera," says one), and a documentary filmmaker is on hand as well. What is it that Tina thinks, feels, and wants: will we ever find out?

Дія розгортається серединою ХІХ століття на одному з французьких островів, загублених в незатишному морі. Один з героїв (Емір Кустуріца) на п’яні очі вбиває людину. Він приречений чекати виконання вироку невідомо скільки тижнів, місяців, років, бо в цьому Богом забутому місці немає навіть ґільотини й ката. Єдиний хто виявляє до нього співчуття – дружина коменданта в’язниці. Мадам Ля (Жюльєт Бінош) досягає успіху в перевихованні злочинця, і ув’язнений не просто змінюється, а стає дуже популярною фігурою на острові. Комендант (Даніель Отей) і його дружина начебто щасливі в шлюбі, вони по справжньому розуміють одне одного, вони закохані. Він – утілення шляхетности й честі, вона – краси, доброти і чуттєвости. Але дивна, незрозуміла симпатія, яку мадам Ля відчуває до ув’язненого, доводить, що ці сімейні стосунки не самодостатні. Мадам Ля – справжня фатальна жінка, її бажання і вчинки невідомої природи, та саме вони роблять життя трагічним. Вона сплітає нитки долі, і в тому числі своєї власної – вона має стати вдовою.А. Сюжет

In the present year of 1989, Pierre Lamontagne has returned to Quebec to attend his father's funeral. He meets up with his adopted brother, Marc, who has begun questioning his identity and has embarked on a quest for his roots that would lead them to the Quebec of the 1950s. Past and present converge in a complex web of intrinque where the answer to the mystery lies.
