Шарліз Терон — американська кіноактриса південноафриканського походження, продюсер, фотомодель, колишня балерина. Лауреатка премій «Оскар» (2004) і «Золотий глобус».
Народилася 7 серпня 1975 в Беноні, ПАР. Батько — Шарль Терон (Шарліз отримала своє ім’я на його честь) — був власником будівельної компанії, мати — Ґерда — бувши владною жінкою, домінувала в сім’ї. Коли дочці було 15 років, в результаті сімейної сварки мати застрелила батька. Цей факт акторка довгий час приховувала, у всіх інтерв'ю ... вона стверджувала, що батько загинув в автокатастрофі. Суд виправдав Герду, визнавши те, що це було самообороною.
У 16 років перемогла у відбірковому конкурсі та отримала річний контракт з модельним агентством і переїхала в Мілан. Дія контракту закінчилася, коли Терон була в Нью-Йорку, після чого вона вступила до балетної школи Joffrey Ballet School. Проте травма коліна змусила її відмовитися від кар’єри балерини. Терон переїхала до Лос-Анджелеса, збираючись стати акторкою. Першою участю в кіно стала епізодична німа роль в direct-to-video фільмі «Діти кукурудзи 3».
Після декількох невеликих ролей вона зіграла у фільмі «Адвокат диявола» (1997) з Аль Пачіно і Кіану Рівзом. Після цієї ролі їй стали надходити пропозиції на знімання.
