Так розпочинається карколомна кар'єра Нікодема Дизми.Серіал реалізований на підставі однойменної повісті Тадеуша Доленги-Мостовича. Написана повість була з потреби... помсти. Журналіст в одній із своїх статей критично відізвався про керування Юзефа Пілсудського. Той, в свою чергу, обурений тоном статті, наслав на Доленгу-Мостовича посіпак, які скатували молодого журналіста. У відповідь Доленга-Мостович створив дану повість, як сатиру на політичний салон двадцятих років у Польщі. Головним героєм вчинив недалекого провінційного поштового урядника, який завдяки випадку підноситься на вершину політичної влади.
Як на той час це був доволі сміливий крок журналіста. Але якби ж то догадувався Доленга-Мостович, наскільки дійсність через 80-90 років переплюне навіть найсміливіші його припущення...
