Сюжет
Історія Еріка Ломакса. Під час Другої світової війни цей британський офіцер був схоплений японськими військами, внаслідок чого пройшов всі жахи військових таборів, де його катували. У полоні він змушений був брати участь у будівництві залізниці. Після війни він пробує жити нормальним життям, але йому це не вдається, жахи минулого ходять за ним слідом. Але Ерік закохується і одружується з чарівною жінкою Патті, яка пробує допомогти йому повернутися до реального життя. Все змінюється, коли фронтовий друг, на прізвисько Дядько, приносить йому газету з фотографією японського ката з таємної поліції Кемпейтай, у якій було написано, що той працює тепер екскурсоводом в тому самому таборі, де Ерік колись був ув'язнений.
