Сюжет

Безтурботні Чистильники взуття або Шуша (назва «шуша» походить від неправильної неаполітанської вимови «шушайна» (англ. shoe-shiner), що означає «чистильник взуття»), що втискуються зі своїми дерев'яними ящиками в потік вуличного натовпу, викроюючи клапоть тротуару для своєї простої праці, зберігаючи крихти, заглядають в майбутнє, яке затьмарює підступний удар.

Ворожий світ проти хлопчачої мрії: повівшись на розведення дорослих шахраїв, хлопчики потрапляють в тюрму, де панують суворий порядок і нездоровий цинізм, де примітивні звичаї розбійної компанії йдуть пліч о пліч з жорстокістю наглядачів, затискаючи дітей між молотом злочинності та ковадлом правосуддя, що вбивають наївну дитячу мрію. Щира дитина, не здатна розпізнати обман, породжує ланцюжок помилок, що призводить до неминучого фатального фіналу.

"Шуша" став одним із перших неореалістичних фільмів і приніс своїм творцям славу не тільки в Італії, а й у всьому світі і у 1948 році отримав першу премію Оскар фільму іноземною мовою.
