In a car shop in Rotterdam, three car mechanics find out that the owner of the car shop, their colleague and boss, has a debt of EUR40.000 with the tax service. After unsuccessfully trying several possible solutions, these four beer drinking and cigarette smoking out-of-shape men ask their fifth colleague, a now physically disabled but also former marathon runner, to train them for a marathon. If they finish it, their debt will be paid, if they don't, they loose the garage.

Тоді офіціант йде до сценариста, який, виявляється, пише ситком з його життя, і просить замінити коханку на що-небудь пристойніше і дати можливість хоча б пару раз відповісти найнахабнішому клієнтові. Сценарист погоджується - і незабаром біля його дверей шикується ціла черга із знедолених персонажів.Сюжет

March 11th, 2002. John R. takes the head of security and 17 others hostage in Amsterdam biggest skyscraper. John R. demands to speak with the Philips head of Sound&Vision. His goal is to warn people about a large-scale fraud, aimed at brainwashing consumers by means of widescreen TV sets. In the film, we find out about John's preliminary frustrations, his bizarre encounter with Philips head of Sound&Vision Gerard Wesselinck, their impossible friendship, rivalry and John's armed attempt to force the executive to do penance in public.

Кафе "Централ" на привокзальній площі всього лише місце, де можна почекати свій потяг. Але для багатьох його відвідувачів це й притулок, де можна сховатися від життя, від її жалів і порожніх ілюзій. Їх щоденні буденні бесіди складаються в хор самотніх сердець, що шукають тепла і участі один в одному. Життя кафе вибивається із звичної колії, коли один з його завсідників, Херард, заходить, щоб повідомити про свій від'їзд і назавжди попрощатися, своєю подругою Паулою, господаркою кафе і його дочкою з друзями.

When he and a nosy reporter begin asking questions of the lift company's electronics partner (Rising Sun Electronics) his boss puts him on a leave of absence.
