Сюжет

Діксон Стіл, талановитий голлівудський сценарист, сидить без роботи через пияцтво й уїдливий характер. В один фатальний вечір він запросив до себе Мілдред, щоб поговорити про повість, запропонованою йому для адаптації.
Через якийсь час алкоголь і балаканина дівчини так стомили Стіла, що він вигнав її. А ранком Мілдред знайшли мертвою й спотвореною... Всі докази вказують на Стіла, лише починаюча старлетка Лорел Грій вірить у його невинність.
