До влади прийшов новий король крізь зраду та кров. Його демони-помічники коять страшні речі. Але одного разу, вночі, в місто прийшов загадковий воїн. Увесь покритий бронею та шрамами, він називає себе Чорним Мечником. Розміри його меча можуть порівнятися тільки з його ненавистю до короля та його демонів."Берсерк" — це середньовічна військова драма з численними елементами фентезі та жахів. У центрі розповіді життєвий шлях колишнього найманця, а нині мисливця на демонів, Ґаца. Сюжет «Берсерк» буквально занурює нас у світ зради, долі, магії, демонів, і, звичайно ж, ельфів.
«Ми повинні взяти долю у свої руки і не дозволити їй вирішувати, як нам жити і померти" — це і є основна думка «Берсерк», яка розкривається перед нами впродовж всього аніме-серіалу. У той же час, в ньому розглядається питання — як далеко може зайти людина, та чим може пожертвувати заради того, щоб досягти своєї мети.
