За мотивами однойменної новели Скотта Сміта. Міннесота, США. Напередодні Нового року Хенк Мітчелл і його дружина Сара очікують поповнення в родині. Вони живуть в достатку завдяки зусиллям чоловіка. Перед зустріччю Нового року чоловік Сари зі своїм братом Джейкобом і його другом Лу відправляються на кладовище, щоб вшанувати пам'ять рідні Мітчелл. На зворотній дорозі у компанії трапляється неприємність: з нізвідки перед вантажівкою з'являється лисиця, в результаті чого автомобіль заносить в кювет. Розлючений Джейкоб бере рушницю і женеться за твариною, а Хенк і Лу слідують за ними. У лісі трійця випадково натикається на розбитий літак, всередині якого знаходить труп невідомого і сумку, повну грошей. Спочатку Хенк пропонує викликати поліцію, а самим не вплутуватися в цю справу. Але під тиском Лу компанія приймає інше рішення. За обопільною згодою гроші з собою забирає Хенк. Вони домовляються нікому не розповідати про те, що трапилося і почекати настання весни, щоб потім поділити суму.
