Зима 1942 року. У одній з північно - західних областей Росії, окупованої фашистами, діє партизанський загін лейтенанта Івана Локоткова, у минулому - сільського міліціонера. Загін годувати нічим: в окрузі - одні спалені села і карателі.Командир приймає рішення захопити фашистський ешелон з продовольством на вузловій станції, де охороняється кожен метр. Провести операцію береться поліцай Лазарев, що розкаявся, якого німці знають в обличчя. Але чи можна йому довіритися?..
Сюжет
