Земля проходить через хмару кометних осколків, які як вогненний дощ згорають в атмосфері. Жителі всієї планети висипають на вулиці помилуватися небувалим фейєрверком, а наступного дня прокидаються сліпими, окрім тих "нещасних", хто через пияцтво або через хворобу вмудрився пропустити фантастичне по красі видовище. І ось тут-то приходить нова біда - на сліпих людей відкривають полювання м'ясоїдні рослини-тріффіди, які починають інтенсивно розмножуватися у всіх куточках планети...

At the end of his tether, he stumbles onto a lucky chance to assume an impenetrable new identity as psychiatrist Victor Bartok. But irony piles on as Muller finds it's out of the frying pan, into the fire.
