Подружжя переживає глибоку трагедію, яка руйнує їхню близькість. Щоб відновити зв’язок, вони починають зустрічатися як незнайомці, створюючи нові образи через оголошення про знайомства. У цих рольових іграх вони поступово відкривають приховані почуття та невисловлені образи. Межа між вигадкою і реальністю стирається, змушуючи їх переосмислити свої стосунки. Це експеримент, який може або врятувати їхній шлюб, або остаточно його зруйнувати.
Сюжет
Подружжя переживає глибоку трагедію, яка руйнує їхню близькість. Щоб відновити зв’язок, вони починають зустрічатися як незнайомці, створюючи нові образи через оголошення про знайомства. У цих рольових іграх вони поступово відкривають приховані почуття та невисловлені образи. Межа між вигадкою і реальністю стирається, змушуючи їх переосмислити свої стосунки. Це експеримент, який може або врятувати їхній шлюб, або остаточно його зруйнувати.

Досвідчений, цинічний, але не дуже удачливий політичний журналіст П'єр отримує завдання узяти інтерв'ю у актриси Каті - зірки мильних опер і «бешних» хорроров. Завдання це його не дуже сильно радує, так само як і саму Катю зовсім не радує спілкування з малоприємним типом, який задає їй безглузді питання.Проте, Каті і П'єру випадає незабутній вечір в товаристві один одного. Вечір гри в емоційні кішки-мишки. Причому відповідь на питання хто мисливець, а хто жертва, зовсім не очевидна.

The people of New York have been burying their unknown dead on Hart Island since 1869. Now real estate tycoon Rupert King wants to build what he calls "Hope City", supposedly to help the poor and homeless of the city "get a leg up", on this same island, with no thought of the current million or so "residents". Accompanied by a New York cop looking for a missing girl's body and some reluctant employees of the Department of Corrections, King makes his way to the island for the ground-breaking ceremony. But when his personal assistant goes missing, and night falls on the island, dark secrets are revealed, not only about the island itself, but King's "noble" plans for it as well. And the island's residents, with their souls in the form of countless and lethal flies, have no intention of being ignored.

This cinema version of the Sam Shepard play is set well after the mid-century. James Woods as the alcoholic farmer drives a huge beater with a rusted roof which is emblematic of the general disrepair of his farm. A lovingly tended lamb with maggots is the reverse emblem of something helpless, needy and cared for. The refrigerator is spoken to as a character, as if standing in for absent nurturing from Woods' self-centered wife. The couple have two kids who must come of age as their home is being torn apart around them and the parents pursue fantasies of "better things" offered by crook Randy Quaid. Henry Thomas as the son copes by holding on to the land and creating a poetic commentary, and the responses of his sister to the crisis become a powerful and surprising tribute to womanhood.

Her mother kicks her out of the house and her boyfriend dumps her, so Maria is left alone and homeless. This is when she meets Matthew Slaughter. Matthew is an educated high school graduate with a great talent for fixing electronic devices, but he can't hang on to a job because of his principled attitude towards quality.
